Section of Edith Lake area closed to protect Western Toads

Staff report
April 18, 2021 10:12am

Hundreds of Western Toads are breeding at Edith and Fawn Lakes, including along shorelines accessed by people.

To protect the toads and allow them to breed successfully, access to a small section of the north shore of Edith Lake, near the pit toilet, will be closed, says BC Parks.

The closures will be marked with signs, and the closure went into effect on Saturday April 17.

Visitors are asked to not access the lakeshore at the north end of Edith Lake, control their dogs, and avoid disturbing toads.

In other areas of Fawn and Edith Lakes please watch for toads, do not disturb if encountered, and keep dogs under control.

BC Parks is again reminding people that vehicles parked illegally at Stawamus Chief including the Apron parking lot will be subject to towing at the owner’s expense.

Visitors must park in designated parking lots and observe the “no parking” signs posted. Vehicles parked illegally in closed day-use areas will be charged a fee for gate unlocking.

Vehicles parked illegally at Murrin Provincial Park will also be subject to towing at the owner’s expense.
