Man high on drugs assaults person at local business

staff report
May 7, 2021 11:45am

Squamish RCMP are investigating a case of assault at a local business that took place on April 29.

Cpl. Angela Kermer of Squamish RCMP said a man who was using an ‘unknown mind-altering substance’ was at the business when he punched another person in the face.

The person sustained minor injuries in the assault.

Squamish RCMP has identified and arrested the attacker and he will appear in court in the future. He also can’t have any contact with the victim.

Fraud

On May 3, Squamish RCMP investigated a fraud after the complainant gave the last three digits of their Social Insurance Number to a scammer pretending to be a police officer.

The complainant caught on to the scam and reported the incident to their bank, Equifax, and Canadian Fraud Agency.

The police will not contact people asking for Social Insurance Number, Squamish RCMP says.
