Capilano University announces two new programs

Staff report
May 12, 2021 1:04pm

Capilano University has announced two new program offerings for students to customize their programs of study.

Beginning September 2021, students outside the Faculty of Business and Professional Studies can elect to complete a Minor in Business, and students from all faculties can elect to pursue a Minor in Communication Studies when completing a four-year bachelor degree, CapU said in a media release.

The new Minor in Communication Studies will provide students with essential communication and analytical skills valuable in today’s knowledge and information-based society, the university said.

The School of Communications has offered a four-year Bachelor of Communication Studies degree since 2011, which allows students currently pursing electives in Communication Studies to apply 21 credits towards a designated Minor in Communications Studies.

“These two new programs reflect the course programming direction and commitment to students set out in the University’s Academic Plan 2030,” says Laureen Styles, VP Academic & Provost.

“They provide students with complimentary skills that will enhance their employability and future success in a wide variety of organizational settings.”

Since 1990, the School of Business has provided CapU students with a rigorous experience-based business degree that prepares them for successful entry into the workforce. However, until now, the School has not included a minor for non-Business students.

The 18.00 credit Minor is designed to provide students with a structured introduction to several core areas: accounting, marketing, business law and human resources.

The School of Business and Professional Studies collaborated with colleagues across the University to develop a flexible minor to benefit any interested CapU student, adds Dennis Silvestrone, dean of the Faculty of Business and Professional Studies.

Students wanting more information about the requirement to complete either program can contact the Academic Advising department in the Registrar’s Office.
