A cougar has been sighted on the Ray Peter Trail and Olson Road in Brackendale.
Locals reported the sightings on RAPP line this weekend, said COS sergeant Simon Gravel.
On Saturday, COS had also alerted the community about a cougar in the area of Mamquam River dike.
“Cougar sightings are common in these areas and are a good reminder that we are surrounded by wildlife,” said Gravel.
He said people should be aware of their surroundings while enjoying local trails.
Gravel urged locals to not go into trails alone, to not use head phones and most importantly, keep dogs on leash.
“We need to be aware of our surrounding, and I urge people to carry a bear spray. Surprising a bear or cougar can potentially create a hazardous situation,” he said.
He also added that cougars are mostly nocturnal animals, but their sighting is a good reminder that we are surrounded by wildlife.
He also encouraged people to call the RAPP line, and not just share the information on social media.
