Heat record set in Squamish

Yesterday was another record-setting hot day in Squamish.

According to a weather summary released by Environment Canada, Squamish set a record for maximum temperature at 30.2 C.

The old record was from 2018, when Squamish recorded 29.7 C. Records have been kept in the area since 1960.

Two other communities set new heat records.

Hope area recorded 32.5 C, beating the old record of 30.9 C set in 2018. Records have been kept since 1936.

In White Rock area, the temperatures soared to 28.7 C, a record for the community. The older record of 27.2 C was set in 1938, and records have been kept in the community since 1929.

The Howe Sound region remains under a heat warning, although the next few days will be slightly cooler, with the weather expected to be hot again on the weekend.
