Squamish Fire Rescue crews stopped local youths from starting a potential campfire on the weekend.
Police were dispatched to investigate a possible campfire in No Name Road area on Friday, July 2 at approximately 6:30 pm.
Upon arrival, Squamish Fire Rescue members found a group of youth downstream of the CN Rail bridge with some wood, presumably to start a campfire.
Fire crews confiscated the wood and explained the campfire regulations to youths.
“This is a fortunate case in which Squamish Fire Rescue was able to intervene early and therefore prevent an illegal and potentially dangerous event from occurring,” says Squamish Fire Rescue Chief Bill Stoner.
Stoner is also reminding all residents that a province-wide fire ban is in effect which prohibits all open fires, including campfires, until further notice.
Residents are encouraged to report wildfires to 1.800.663.5555 or *5555 on a mobile device and call 911 to report any unattended campfires, or open burning violations.
