For the tailor, a stitch in time saves nine, but for the trail builder, a crowned trail sheds water and helps prevent erosion and trail braiding.
Recently, volunteers from the Squamish Trails Society worked to resurface roughly 400 m of the Loggers Creek Trail.
The trail had begun to reveal its river rock base and collect water during wet weather.
This scenic trail parallels the paved Corridor Trail between the Adventure Centre and Brennan Park, and is among Squamish’s most accessible trails.
On July 12, and 13, six Squamish Trails Society volunteers worked to move three dump truck loads of trail base from the staging area to the trail where it was raked to a pronounced crown, slightly higher in the center and tapering to the margins of the trail.
With time and wet weather, the mixed aggregate will compact to a robust trail surface which should shed water helping to keep pedestrians and cyclists dry and the trail puddle-free when the wet weather returns.
The trails society would like to thank people for the patience and encouragement while this work was occurring. We’d also like to thank all those who help to keep our trails clean, friendly and safe. Happy Trails!
