Public feedback sought on proposed building in Downtown Squamish

The District of Squamish is inviting feedback from citizens about a rezoning application for a new mixed-use building in Downtown Squamish.

Lexi Group has applied for a rezoning for 38108 Cleveland Avenue, a centrally located property on Cleveland Avenue.

It is across from the Corsa Cycles and parking lot, adjacent to the McDonald Realty.

Lexi is proposing a five-storey mixed use building with retail units on the ground with commercial canopies extending into the streets.

There will be office and parking on the second storey, and 26 residential units on the third to fifth floors.

The property is currently zoned Commercial 2, and the developers are seeking a rezoning to Downtown Commercial 4 (C-4).

The proposal includes two corner plazas, one on the corner of Cleveland and Winnipeg and the other on the corner of Loggers and Winnipeg.

“Both plazas are intended to integrate the building with life on the street by adding large colourful canopies, attention to façade detail, commercial unit entrances on the corners and outdoor seating,” according to a district report.

The district is looking for any feedback or questions locals may have about this application.

Comments or questions can be submitted here or district can be contacted by phone (604-815-5002) or email (planning@squamish.ca). Comments can also be mailed or dropped off at the drop slot at Municipal Hall – 37955 2nd Avenue, Squamish BC, V8B 0A3.

Looks great to me! More walkable, more liveable, happier – and those awnings will help mitigate rain. This is a good direction for Squamish.

I do NOT support this! Another atrocious building downtown Squamish!? What happens to our views, parking, childcare etc. The council of Squamish has absolutely axed my votes for the future. You’ve let us all down! For shame!!!

Do what you will with the downtown area but leave the residential neighborhoods alone. Adding multi family buildings in Garbidaldi Estates or Brackendale is not what this community needs. To the District-For once listen to what people want and not what puts tax dollars in your pocket

Yes, leave the lovely, environmentally attractive neighbourhoods of Garibaldi Estates and Brackendale alone – don’t uglify them in the way that Squamish downtown has been & is being uglified. As usual the proposed downtown building is without any acknowledgement to nature, including trees, and it is heavy, dark, foreboding like the one at the entrance to Squamish. Why is parking going to be on the second floor, and not underground? Why so much black and dark colours – these make for a foreboding look, and ugly? Squamish needs a new approach to design and architecture,- one that is in keeping with its natural, wonderful beauty.

    This is a joke right?
It looks like a circus tent to me. I can’t believe council would even consider approving this front and centre downtown. Its ugly. Sorry 🤷🏻‍♀️ My opinion.

Interesting appearance for downtown Squamish! Change is great but the traffic and parking is lacking in a big way! We are attracting more people to Squamish so we should deal with these issues now! I actually love the happy look of the building! We need to bring the tourist dollars to Squamish and this building is a start!

This pathetic council and the Mayor are lining up their pockets with so many building development ventures before they are voted out of office next election, cause they know it’s coming. Also bear in mind, whoever is gonna run next time, let their record show what they have done, don’t accept just what they say their platform is. They will lie and cheat to win you over.
