BC Wildfire Service is expecting wildfires in the province to continue exhibiting extreme fire behaviour and high rates of spread.
This is due to a weather system bringing strong, gusty winds to the southern half of the province, the service said.
The BC Wildfire Service is also experiencing challenges on initial attack targets due to fuels being extremely dry and therefore susceptible to new wildfire starts.
“Now is the time to make sure your emergency plan is in place. Knowing what to do will reduce anxiety and help keep you focused and safe,” the service said.
An evacuation alert has been issued by the City of Merritt, and the City of Kamloops, City of Armstrong. A complete list of travel advisories can be seen here.
“Anyone located near a wildfire should pay close attention to their local authorities as the issuing jurisdiction for emerging information on evacuation orders and alerts,” BC Wildfire Service says.
Drivers are being encouraged to check DriveBC for road conditions and closures.
