The District of Lillooet has been placed under an evacuation alert due to potential danger posed by the McKay Creek Wildfire.
“This serves to notify residents of the potential for loss of life/property from the wildfire. Be prepared to leave this area with very short notice should the situation escalate to an Evacuation Order,” said the District of Lillooet.
District said this evacuation alert may be followed by an evacuation order, whereby people must leave their home immediately. If issued, the order will be enforced by RCMP.
BC Wildfire Service is expecting wildfires in the province to continue exhibiting extreme fire behaviour and high rates of spread.
This is due to a weather system bringing strong, gusty winds to the southern half of the province, the service said.
The BC Wildfire Service is also experiencing challenges on initial attack targets due to fuels being extremely dry and therefore susceptible to new wildfire starts.
“Now is the time to make sure your emergency plan is in place. Knowing what to do will reduce anxiety and help keep you focused and safe,” the service said.
