Permit issued for cafe, takeout restaurant along Sea to Sky Highway

The Squamish Lillooet Regional District has issued a three-year temporary use permit for a temporary takeout restaurant and café on Highway 99.

The permit was issued to Jeffrey Edward, the owner of Outbound Station, a BC-based company.

According to the report to SLRD, the applicant proposes to construct and operate a temporary takeout restaurant and café business as an initiative to support the influx of residents, workers and tourists in the region.

The proposed restaurant will be located along the Sea to Sky Highway at the earlier location of Galileo Coffee Company.

The applicant is proposing a highly accessible public rest stop that will provide food, beverages and healthy snacks.

Publicly accessible washrooms and picnic areas for the public are also proposed.

The applicant has suggested a non-permanent, low-impact and energy-efficient building design.

The business will support the local economy and increase local employment opportunities, the proponent says.

The café is on land currently owned and managed by Tiger Bay Development Corporation, known formerly as the Taicheng Development Corporation.

South Britannia is a proposed mix-use development proposing 1,000 single-family and multi-family homes in the area.

A surf park is also being proposed in the development, along with a brewery, skatepark and pump track, a transit hub and a clifftop restaurant.
