Woodfibre LNG is making two significant donations to help communities rebuild from natural disasters and prepare for the future.
These include $20,000 to the Garibaldi Volunteer Fire Department and $10,000 to the Canadian Red Cross for flood relief in the Sumas Prairie.
“It has been a year of extreme weather events in our province, and now more than ever, it’s important that we all chip in to help our neighbours,” said Woodfibre LNG president Christine Kennedy.
“We’re proud to support the Garibaldi Volunteer Fire Department and the Red Cross in the critical work they are doing to help prepare and respond when disaster strikes.”
Woodfibre said it is especially proud to support the Garibaldi Volunteer Fire Department (GVFD), whose members support response efforts around Squamish in various capacities, as needed, including the wildfire near the border of our site this past summer.
The $20,000 donation will help fund the purchase of a wildland truck that will improve the GFVD’s ability to respond to fire and medical incidents in the Sea-to-Sky corridor.
“As we see an increase in climate-related events, especially wildfires, we need to ensure that our team of volunteers is equipped to manage the risk to the safety and well-being of those who live, work and play in the Sea-to-Sky corridor,” said Chief Dan Ross.
“The generous support from Woodfibre LNG will make a big difference in our ability to respond in a timely manner to critical incidents in challenging locations for years to come.”
In addition to the $30,000 Woodfibre is announcing today, Woodfibre LNG also sent $1,000 to the Friends of Lytton GoFundMe earlier this year to support those impacted by this year’s wildfires.
Woodfibre LNG will also donate $5,000 to the Squamish Food Bank and $5,000 to the Howe Sound Women’s Centre to support vulnerable community members.
This year, Woodfibre LNG donated $65,000 to 23 community non-profits, including Camp My Way, Squamish Hospital Foundation, École Squamish Elementary, Sea to Sky Hospice, and many more.
