District of Squamish Public Works crews have set up a self-serve sandbag station at the north end of Brennan Park Recreation Centre, at the Ball field number 5.
Residents are asked to bring a spade or shovel, though district shovels are also available for use but residents are asked to leave them behind for the next person.
District suggests that residents and business owners who are looking for salt may want to consider getting birdseye pea gravel, which can be found locally.
While this product will not melt the ice, it will provide traction and is better for the environment, district says. Residents are also being asked to help support the drainage efforts by keeping individual catch basins free and clear of snow, ice and debris.
Residents should also make an effort to minimize travel and use extra caution around pooling water and ice. The District also encourages residents to be prepared in anticipation of warmer temperatures and heavy rainfall ahead.
The public is also being advised to stay clear of fast-flowing rivers and potentially unstable riverbanks during the high-streamflow period. For road or localized flooding concerns, please contact Squamish Public Works at 604 815 6868 or after hours at 604 815 4040.
