District of Squamish council will vote today on issuing a development permit for ‘The Works,’ an office building on Oceanfront Squamish. District staff supports the development permit.
“Works One” proposes a four-storey office building with commercial space and parking at the back and below grade. The proposed location of the building is at the south end of the Oceanfront Peninsula,.
“Works One” falls within the ‘Primary Employment’ area and will be used to provide a wide variety of employment land uses ranging from light manufacturing, commercial and retail, office, and high technology.
The applicant will provide trip end facilities for bike commuters and 116 vehicle parking spaces, the number required by the district bylaw. District staff supports the permit, noting that Works One will help meet the goal of increasing employment land space in Squamish.
“The addition of ground-floor retail offers an additional benefit aligned with recent research conducted by the Economic Development Department, which identified that local employers are seeking office space that can enhance employees’ wellbeing, with easy access to retail services and amenities, such as food services, financial services, recreation and wellness,” notes a report by the District staff.
