District of Squamish will request logging trucks to use Mamquam Road instead of The Boulevard once repairs to Mamquam Road are complete.
While responding to a citizen’s complaint, Jeremy Valeriote, the executive coordinator for the Mayor and CAO, said the logging trucks are presently accessing Crown land on the provincial Ring Creek Road above Quest University.
“As a municipal level of government, the District of Squamish must provide access to provincial roads and is unable to prevent or restrict it,” he said. “Currently, this is the only way to access this road. Until last year, the majority of trucks were using the District gravel section of Mamquam Road that runs from the University to the golf course.”
He said the District is planning on fixing these areas of the road this year. When the work is complete, the District will request logging trucks to use Mamquam Road instead of The Boulevard.
District is working to bring the gravel portion of Mamquam Road damaged during last November’s rain to its ‘pre-existing condition’ this year. “This generally involves either moving the road away from the failed slope, building a retaining wall, stabilizing the downward slope, and drainage infrastructure,” notes a staff report.
