Snowfall warning issued for Sea to Sky Highway

Staff report
December 9, 2022 3:35pm

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Sea to Sky Highway.

Snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm can be expected on Sea to Sky Highway and Whistler, from today evening to Saturday afternoon.  “A strong frontal system is developing and expected to bring snow, heavy at times to the Sea to Sky Highway and Whistler region,” cautions the agency.

The heavy snow will begin early this evening and will continue through tonight and much of Saturday. Total snowfall accumulations from this storm are expected to be near 15 cm for Whistler and as high as 25 cm along the Sea to Sky corridor.

By later Saturday afternoon the snow will begin to ease as the low pressure system weakens. Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult, and visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
