Sea to Sky Highway reopens; lower speed limit in place

Staff report
December 24, 2022 4:48pm

The Sea to Sky Highway has reopened with a slower speed limit in place.  Highway 99 between Alice Lake and Function Junction is now open with a speed limit set at 60 km/h.  Crews are salting the fast lane for travellers, and drivers can expect flooding.

“We thank highway crews for working to keep drivers and their passengers safe,” says Corporal Angela Kermer of Sea to Sky RCMP. “We need drivers to respect the crews work, the roads, the weather, and the speed limit when travelling so everyone makes it safely to their destination.”

The freezing rain near Squamish is forecast to change over to heavy rain. The precipitation will end by this evening as the system moves out of the region. “Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break,” says Environment Canada.
