Special weather statement for Howe Sound

Staff report
January 26, 2023 5:59am

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Howe Sound. A cold spell is in the forecast for the area and most of B.C. Arctic air will invade the province beginning Friday night, marking a major shift from mild-January.

Outflow winds will spread to the Sea to Sky and Fraser Valley Saturday night.

Temperatures will be 5 to 10 degrees below normal over the South Coast. Coastal areas in Northern BC will also see a rapid drop in temperatures. Gusty winds will accompany the arrival of the cold air, and the wind chill will make it feel even colder.
Temperatures are expected to gradually rise late next week, in early February. However, there remains significant uncertainty on the timing of a return to seasonal temperatures.  Meanwhile, a fog advisory is also in place for Coquihalla Highway, from Hope to Merritt.  There will be near zero visibility over southern interior highway passes this morning. Dense fog will continue this morning over southern interior highway passes, but conditions may gradually improve this afternoon.
