Intersection upgrades: District to remove parking on part of Tantalus Road

staff report
March 13, 2023 8:31am

Residents can expect traffic delays as crews start work this month on improving the Garibaldi Way and Tantalus Road intersection. District says the upgrades will improve safety and traffic flow for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles.  Work begins mid-March and will continue entire June.

Local can expect the following impacts during construction:

There will be no parking on Tantalus Road (east side, north of Garibaldi Way) to facilitate the bike lane extension toward the intersection

Tantalus Road South will have a permanent traffic pattern change to a one-way southbound;

Southeast access to the 7-11 at Garibaldi Way will be permanently closed

District crews will install a new multi-use path along Garibaldi Way from Highway 99 to Diamond Head Road. A  second crosswalk with flashing beacons on Garibaldi Way at Tantalus Road will also be installed. Tantalus Road South will be converted to one-way in the southbound direction between Garibaldi Way and Diamond Road.

“Residents can expect vehicle, cyclist and pedestrian impacts while construction is underway. Regular construction noise should be expected between the working hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Work is scheduled to take approximately 10 weeks to complete,” District says.
