District of Squamish have installed caution signs at Brennan Park Recreation Centre to warn the public of a coyote in the area.
District is asking people to keep children close to adult supervision when on the centre grounds, and to ensure that dogs are not left tied up outside. If you encounter a coyote, make yourself appear large, maintain eye contact and speak or shout in a low, firm voice. If the coyote is aggressive and pursues you, do not turn your back or run.
Throw rocks and arm yourself with a stick. Pick up any small children and back away slowly. Never approach and never feed wild animals. Report coyote sightings to the Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-RAPP (7277). In November last year, District had issued a warning about cougar in the area after a deer carcass was found outside the Brennan Park pool.
