BC Wildfire Service is reporting a new wildfire in Squamish. The wildfire is four hectares in size and is burning 2 kilometres northeast of Mamquam River.

It is being classified as Out of Control, which means a wildfire that is spreading and not responding to suppression efforts. The suspected cause is human, which means a wildfire started by humans or human activity.

Gordon Robinson, information officer with Coastal Fire Centre, said the first is burning at Rank 3, which means it is a moderately vigorous surface fire, driven by the wind.  There are three initial attack crews, two helicopters, airtankers, and a twenty person fire crew that is battling this fire.
