Charges laid in fatal West Vancouver wedding crash

staff report
August 15, 2023 4:57pm

Charges have been laid in relation to a fatal car crash on August 20, 2022, that resulted in the death of two females in their 60s and injured seven people in the Cedardale neighbourhood of West Vancouver.

The incident happened last year when a driver struck seven people in a wedding party, killing two and injuring seven. A 64-year-old West Vancouver resident, Hong Xu, has been charged with “drive a motor vehicle without due care and attention,” under section 144(1)(a) of the Motor Vehicle Act.

The West Vancouver Police said it conducted a thorough investigation into the incident and forwarded the information to Crown Counsel, which made a determination on the appropriate charge given the evidence and circumstances of the incident. “Our officers and victim services have been in contact with the victims and their families throughout this investigation to provide them with support and updates” says Cst. Nicole Braithwaite.

West Vancouver Police will not be commenting on this incident any further as the matter is now before the courts.
