CapU and District of Squamish sign MOU

staff report
February 15, 2024 9:55am

Capilano University and the District of Squamish have solidified their partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The MoU outlines the shared goals and collaborations between the two to benefit learners, employers, and the community. The agreement also highlights the commitment of both parties to support economic, social, and cultural development in the region.

Capilano University’s President and Vice-Chancellor, Paul Dangerfield, and the Mayor of the District of Squamish, Armand Hurford, signed the MoU at CapU’s new Squamish campus, which is set to open in September 2024. The agreement includes establishing a Squamish chapter of City Studio, advancing the Squamish Childcare Action Plan, identifying work-integrated learning opportunities, and other potential collaborations.

According to Dangerfield, the MoU has set out several projects to contribute positively to sea-to-sky communities’ health and well-being. Mayor Hurford also expressed the District of Squamish’s commitment to increasing education and lifelong learning opportunities to support the community’s vitality and environment.

In addition to the MoU with the District of Squamish, Capilano University signed an MoU with the Sea to Sky School District in January 2024 to further advance opportunities for learners. The university anticipates welcoming 120 students for the CapU Squamish Fall term and is in active discussions with Indigenous communities to explore programming options specific to Indigenous learners.
