On March 5, the District of Squamish Council will discuss issuing a development permit for five buildings designated for light industrial use along Highway 99.

The proposed development, Mill Road Industrial, will be located at 1450 Highway 99. Situated on a 1.75-hectare parcel on the west side of Highway 99, just south of the Shell gas station, the property currently hosts an aging industrial building at the south end of the property.  The developers are proposing a variance to increase the number of buildings from two to five.

“Staff support the variance request as it will allow the applicants to maximize the employment space provided on-site while also breaking up the buildings to reduce the overall massing,” notes a report to the council.

The development includes provisions for 131 parking spaces and six loading spaces. Access to the site will be from Mill Road, situated on the west side of Highway 99. Also proposed are two silos intended to mirror the existing Elaho Logging silo on-site. These structures will house Class B bicycle parking stalls.  The development also proposed four pedestrian amenity spaces, offering outdoor and covered seating for patrons and employees.

“Development Permit 566 would increase the amount of employment space on a currently underutilized parcel, which would help achieve the goal of creating a net increase of employment space,” notes the report by staff.
