Pedestrian and baby injured in hit-and-run in Downtown Squamish

The Sea to Sky RCMP-Squamish are investigating a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian and a baby on Monday evening, April 22, 2024.

At approximately 8:30 pm, Sea to Sky RCMP-Squamish received numerous calls that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian and a baby in a stroller at a crosswalk in Pemberton Ave and Second Ave in Downtown Squamish.  The vehicle fled the scene and was approximately found two blocks away. The driver was arrested.

The baby stroller, with the baby inside, was lodged into the front of the vehicle and appeared to have been dragged from the collision. The pedestrian and baby sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are receiving medical attention.

The Sea to Sky RCMP-Squamish is asking for the public’s help. Between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., please call the Squamish RCMP if anyone has dashcams or doorbell/home security cameras in the downtown Squamish areas of Second Avenue/Pemberton Avenue to Fourth Avenue/Winnipeg Avenue.  Anyone who witnessed the incident and has not spoken to police should call the Sea to Sky RCMP-Squamish at 604-892-6100.

Sea to Sky RCMP-Squamish are thanking the public for their quick actions in locating the vehicle and providing timely information to police to assist in the investigation. No more information will be provided while Squamish RCMP investigates the incident.
