Squamish RCMP and other agencies are investigating a plane crash in a remote area near Squamish.

On the evening of May 24, 2024, the Squamish RCMP was alerted by an automatic crash notification from a smartphone. The location of the signal was traced to a remote area on the outskirts of Squamish, according to Squamish RCMP.

According to a report in CTV, the location of the plane crash was “20 nautical miles north of Vancouver,” with crews searching Mount Ellesmere and the surrounding area, about 10 kilometres from Squamish.  At present, Search and Rescue teams, along with the Joint Rescue Coordination Center, are actively working to navigate the challenging terrain and reach the crash site.

Due to the difficulty of accessing the remote location, the authorities have not yet confirmed any specifics about the crash. Police said further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

For now, the RCMP is focused on coordinating rescue efforts and ensuring the safety of all involved in this difficult operation, Squamish RCMP said.
