Residents asked to shape future budget through survey, pop-up events

staff report
May 30, 2024 7:48am

The District of Squamish is asking residents to help shape the community’s future by participating in a new survey and attending a series of pop-up events designed to gather public input on top community priorities.

As part of the early planning stages for the 2025-2029 Financial Plan, the District says it’s keen to understand the residents’ needs and aspirations. The feedback collected will guide the Council in making informed decisions about services, projects, and initiatives to invest in over the next five years.

The District has launched two key initiatives:

  1. Online Survey: Residents are encouraged to complete an online survey to share their views on the community’s needs. The survey is designed to capture various opinions and preferences, providing a clear picture of the community’s priorities.
  2. Pop-Up Events: Four pop-up events will be held across Squamish, where residents can directly converse with District Council members and staff. These events offer a unique opportunity to discuss individual priorities and learn more about the planning process.

Pop-Up Dates and Locations:

  • Saturday, May 25: 10 am to 3 pm at the Squamish Farmers’ Market
  • Saturday, June 1: 10 am to 2 pm at the Garibaldi Village Neighbourhood Nook
  • Saturday, June 8: 10 am to 2 pm at Brennan Park Recreation Centre
  • Saturday, June 15: 10 am to 2pm at Stan Clarke Park

“Part of our engagement efforts will also be communicating how and why decisions are made to residents. Conversations with community members and various forms of public input (e.g., surveys) will aim to create alignment between community priorities and Council decision-making. We are listening,” says the District of Squamish.
