Special weather statement for Howe Sound

staff report
June 1, 2024 9:29am

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement predicting heavy rainfall for several regions, including Howe Sound, Metro Vancouver’s North Shore, northeast Metro Vancouver, and northern sections of the Fraser Valley.

A moisture-laden Pacific frontal system is expected to bring on the rainfall, which is expected to begin Sunday morning. The downpour will intensify by late Sunday afternoon, potentially accumulating up to 60 mm of rain by Sunday night. The heavy rainfall is anticipated to ease on Monday.

Residents must be prepared for possible flash floods and water pooling on roads. Due to the intense precipitation, localized flooding in low-lying areas may also occur. Authorities urge the public to stay informed by monitoring updates and forecasts from Environment Canada.

Individuals can email BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using the hashtag #BCStorm to report severe weather.
