Housing Squamish aims to enhance affordable housing delivery and access in the community by creating a centralized housing access portal.
In an interview published on Housing Squamish, Sarah Ellis, the executive director, says the initiative will provide community members with a single point of access for affordable rental units managed by non-profit providers.
Ellis outlined the vision for the portal, emphasizing that the goal is to streamline the housing search process and prioritize those in need. The portal will cater to individuals and households with specific housing needs, including those at risk of homelessness, seniors, and key workers.
Initial steps involve creating an interest list and housing application policy, with plans to expand the portal gradually.
“We know the community needs are great, and that this housing access portal can go a long way in decreasing the paperwork and stress when looking for affordable housing. However, this is a big, ambitious project with many moving parts, and it will take some time to roll it out,” Ellis says.
