A heat warning is in effect for Squamish. Elevated temperatures are expected, posing a moderate risk to public health, according to the latest warning issued by Environment Canada.
The warning is in effect from now through Monday, with daytime highs in the 30s and overnight lows in the mid-teens. While some relief is expected on Friday, temperatures will rebound to heat warning criteria by Sunday.
The agency warns that elevated temperatures pose risks to everyone, but mainly to seniors, individuals living alone, and those with pre-existing health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, respiratory disease, mental illness, substance use disorders, or limited mobility.
It is advised to check on family, friends, and neighbours, especially those at higher risk, to ensure they have access to a remarkable space. Concerned citizens are reminded to never leave vulnerable individuals, including children and pets, inside a parked vehicle. Those in overheated areas are encouraged to seek out cool spaces such as tree-shaded areas, splash pads, misting stations, or air-conditioned public buildings.
