The BIRDS ‘n WORDS – a multi-disciplinary art exhibition – is now installed at the FOYER Gallery in the Squamish Public Library. It will remain there through mid-September and then travel to a new venue in the community.

Birds ‘n Words Project is led by local artists Toby Jaxon, Tatiana Lee, and Zoe Evamy.

“We are dedicated to promoting and supporting local emerging and established artists, providing opportunities for creative expression and dialogue within our community to support local conservation initiatives. The Birds ‘n Words team is grateful for support from the Squamish Arts 2024 Arts & Culture Grant and the District of Squamish,” the team said.

BIRDS ‘n WORDS celebrates local artist collaborations, the birds of Squamish, and their special habitats in our region. This travelling exhibit, a cohesive mosaic, showcases how words and visual art can complement one another to create a novel, impactful art installation and environmental message. The installation combines six poets and 20 Visual artists busy creating birds on assigned 12″x12″ canvases connected by colours and branches.

Each of the 20 provided canvases was assigned bird species, and a sketch showed where the branches and colours connect from canvas to canvas. These are the elements that make the entire mosaic unite. The artists have also been funded to create a book from the BIRDS ‘n WORDS project, where they will raise money for the Squamish Environmental Society.
