A brush fire that started after a car caught fire on Sea to Sea to Sky Highway is now under control. It was earlier listed as being held.

Fire Information Officer Sam Bellion said the fire is under control, which means a wildfire is not projected to spread beyond the current perimeter. However, the fire is not out, which is classified by BC Wildfire as a stage where the wildfire has been extinguished.

The BC Wildfire Service uses four stages of control to report on progress, and each stage provides a broad overview of the current objectives and tactics used on a fire.

Bellion said Squamish Fire Rescue and BC Wildfire Service crews responded to the fire yesterday around 4 pm on the Sea to Sky Highway, north of Culliton Creek. BC Wildfire Service will be monitoring the fire for hot spots.

The fire danger rating in Squamish remains extreme, and a campfire ban is also in effect.
