A single-vehicle rollover early this morning on Highway 99 in West Vancouver is a stark reminder of the hazards of heavy rain and water pooling on roads.

According to a statement from the West Vancouver Police, the rollover incident occurred early this morning during the heavy rain on the highway. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.

“Very heavy rain plus significant pooling water equals SLOW DOWN,” the West Vancouver Police advised in a social media post accompanying the photo, urging drivers to exercise caution in poor weather.

A special weather statement is also in effect for Vancouver, North Shore and the Fraser Valley as a powerful storm system brings heavy rain and high winds. Heavy rain began early this morning and is expected to impact the morning rush hour, reducing visibility on roads and highways.

Commuters should anticipate slower travel times and take caution, warns Environment Canada. Rainfall totals will vary across the region, with the North Shore expecting between 30 to 40 mm and its mountains potentially seeing as much as 40 to 70 mm. While some areas of Metro Vancouver will see lighter rain, the storm’s intensity could lead to rapid accumulation quickly, compounding flood risks in vulnerable zones.
