Snowfall warning issued for Northern BC

staff report
November 27, 2024 9:58am

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for parts of northern and central British Columbia, including the Cariboo region, with snow accumulations of 10 to 15 cm expected by Friday midday.

The warning affects areas such as Bulkley Valley, Williston, Stuart-Nechako, Prince George, McGregor, Pine Pass, and Yellowhead Highway from Tête Jaune Cache to the Alberta border.

Snowfall will begin Wednesday morning as a low-pressure system moves in from the Gulf of Alaska. Light snow is expected to transition to heavier and more consistent snowfall overnight, with the most intense periods occurring on Thursday. The system is expected to leave the region by midday Friday.

The snowfall may reduce visibility suddenly, particularly during heavier periods, creating hazardous driving conditions. Due to accumulating snow, roads, highways, walkways, and parking lots may become slippery and difficult to navigate. Drivers are urged to turn on their lights, maintain a safe following distance, and exercise caution.
