Construction at landfill starts next week; expect major delays

staff report
December 5, 2024 6:25am

The District of Squamish has announced that construction work at the landfill transfer station will begin on December 9, leading to significant service disruptions expected to last one to two weeks.

During this period, access to the facility will be highly restricted, with only one vehicle allowed at a time and limited access to disposal bins. Residents are urged to minimize waste drop-offs and plan accordingly to avoid inconvenience.

Several items will not be accepted during the construction period. These include tires, which can be disposed of for free at OK Tire and Kal Tire; large appliances, which can be taken to ASM Squamish; and small electronics and appliances, which can be dropped off at the GFL depot on Queensway. Additionally, invasive species disposal will be temporarily halted.

While regular operating hours will remain in place, the District thanks the public for their patience and understanding as these essential upgrades are completed.
