Arctic outflow warning for Howe Sound

staff report
February 9, 2025 9:21am

An Arctic Outflow Warning is in effect for Howe Sound and surrounding areas, with dangerously cold temperatures and strong winds expected overnight into Tuesday afternoon.

According to Environment Canada, frigid air combined with gusty outflow winds will push wind chill values to near -20°C in Howe Sound, the Sea to Sky Highway, Whistler, and Pemberton. The coldest conditions will occur overnight and during the early morning hours before temperatures rise on Tuesday afternoon.

The agency warns that frostbite and hypothermia can develop within minutes if precautions are not taken. Residents and visitors are advised to wear warm, layered clothing, cover exposed skin, and stay dry outdoors.

Environment Canada urges the public to stay updated on weather alerts and forecasts. Severe weather reports can be submitted via email at BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or shared on social media using #BCStorm.
