A serious three-vehicle collision on Highway 99 north of Britannia Beach has led to multiple injuries, police say. The accident shut down the busy route for several hours yesterday evening.

According to Squamish RCMP, officers responded to the crash just after 3:30 p.m. on February 9, along with BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) and BC Emergency Health Services (BC EHS). Several individuals were injured and have been taken to Lower Mainland hospitals for treatment.

In a press release,  Squamish RCMP said The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) was called to help with the investigation.  Squamish RCMP is thanking the public for their patience and urged anyone with information about the accident to  contact police at 604-892-6100. The investigation remains ongoing.

Accident happened at 3:30pm, road re-opened at 11:00pm. Why are people left in freezing temperatures in their cars waiting 8-9 hours?
    1. Why was not traffic stopped/redirected/organized by authorities at Squamish, so people would have better options for long wait?
    2. Why does it take 9 hours for police to re-open yhe road?
Very unorganized, incompetent oficers, or wrong procedures handling this type of accidents…
Carrier polititians, please pressure the police chief to review this and change/improve handling of cases like this…

Wholeheartedly agree. And the concrete barriers that run from Shannon falls to Murrin lake that trap cars without a chance to leave are ridiculous. There have to be openings build in every few km so people can escape to safety and return back to Squamish where they can stay warm, eat and sleep. Instead 1.000’s of passengers, including babies and toddlers are trapped in cold cars. There are so many accidents on this stretch of highway and people continue to be trapped for hours on end. 3:30 to 11:00 is NOT a couple of hours.

If you’re stuck on the sea-to-sky highway you’re stuck there is no other route . Obviously they have to stop traffic to do a thorough investigation.
I suppose you complain about government not being properly prepared for snow storms .
Welcome to the real world where citizens aren’t always taken care of and life made easy for .

It is time to say goodbye to the RCMP. At their least transparent when investigated, and member’s armorments worn – bullet vests, stun and firearms, club, cuffs – are more than Ukranian soldiers on the front line. It’s embarrassing.

Okay, then. We’ll leave it to Mikey! You get out there and show us all how it’s done!

The barriers are in place ALMOST the whole way to prevent accidents spanning across both sides of hwy.

The best thing you can do is be prepared.
    Have water/snacks/ blankets.

Yes quite an inconvieince to many, but you’re alive and unharmed.

Too many people travel The Sea to Sky, that are unfamiliar with its windy ways. It is an enjoyable drive & many people speed.
    No matter what you do.
Maybe try drop the speed limits (in certain areas/ or seasonally. People will likely still go at least 10 over the ‘limit.’ Limitting the limit in turn would give harsher fines, such as excessive speeding.

    Drive safe.

If it weren’t for those deviders there’d be head on collisions and more deaths. People just gotta have good tires and slow the fk down.
Radical self reliance! If you’re not prepared, don’t drive up!
