District of Squamish has canceled Spring Break aquatics programs as it works to resolve ongoing issues with the pool deck, officials announced Monday.
Registration for all spring aquatics programs is also temporarily on hold, with no precise reopening date yet. The district does not anticipate repairs being completed in time for Spring Break, and all registered participants will receive cancellation notices and automatic refunds by the end of the week.

The district is working closely with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) and specialized contractors to finalize a plan for reopening, which must be approved by VCH. However, officials caution that the repair approach and staffing capacity will influence the final timeline.
“We recognize the impact this closure has on our community and appreciate everyone’s patience,” the district said. “Reopening the pool safely and as quickly as possible remains our top priority.”
Slip testing was never part of the annual shutdown at the Brennan Park swimming pool. In a Q&A posted on its website, the District of Squamish said testing tiles for slip resistance was never included in routine maintenance. However, that is now under review following a safety inspection that led to the facility’s closure.
Vancouver Coastal Health inspected the pool on January 15 after a patron slipped in the steam room. VCH ordered the steam room to be shut down and district hire a specialist to test the slip resistance of the tiles. The February 11 tests confirmed that the tiles did not meet the required anti-slip standards for wet surfaces. VCH issued a closure order for the pool on February 12.
