16-year-old dead after hiking accident in Lions Bay

staff report
May 6, 2025 10:35am

A 16-year-old teen has died following a hiking accident near Lions Bay on Sunday afternoon.

In a press release, Squamish RCMP said police were notified around 3:30 p.m. on May 4 that two hikers had separated. One of the teens had reportedly fallen into a gully, prompting the second to leave the trail to locate their friend. North Shore and Lions Bay Search and Rescue teams were deployed and successfully located one of the teens.

The second teen was found unresponsive and transported to hospital, where they were later pronounced dead despite life-saving efforts. Squamish RCMP say they are working with the BC Coroners Service to determine the incident’s circumstances.

“Our thoughts and condolences go out to the friends and family of the deceased,” said Sgt. Dallas Langley of the Sea to Sky RCMP.
