Woman dies in slackline accident near Squamish

May 18, 2025 8:59am

A 22-year-old woman has died after falling from a slack line at Chek Canyon Recreation Area, a popular climbing destination north of Squamish.

The incident happened just after 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 16. Squamish RCMP say they received a report of the fall at 12:34 p.m. and responded alongside emergency medical crews and Squamish Search and Rescue.

The woman was confirmed dead at the scene. Due to the steep terrain and difficulty accessing the base of the canyon, search and rescue teams assisted in recovering her body. The BC Coroners Service has taken over the investigation.

Squamish RCMP said several people witnessed the incident. Victim Services staff were on site to provide support, and those affected are encouraged to call 604-892-6153 for assistance.
