The wildfire burning near Squamish has grown to 14.4 hectares, according to the BC Wildfire Service.  It is still classified as ‘Out of Control’, which means a wildfire that is spreading or is anticipated to spread beyond the current perimeter or control line.

As many as 28 firefighters remain on scene, focusing efforts on containing the blaze’s west and south flanks. Crews have made “good progress” despite the rugged terrain, according to the update.
There are currently four helicopters and one airtanker responding to this wildfire, with helicopters drawing water from Alice Lake.  The BC Wildfire Service has resumed efforts to tackle the fire this morning.

An Evacuation Alert remains in place for properties at the east end of Depot Road, east of Highway 99, including the Depot Road campground, and properties at the end of Tantalus Road, properties along Tantalus Road north of Dowad Drive, and the Skyridge. Subdivision.

The District of Squamish has declared a state of local emergency, which enables the district to access additional resources from the Province and to evacuate homes at a moment’s notice if necessary.
