A young man is missing after a vehicle carrying four friends crashed into the Squamish River in the early hours of Saturday, June 14. The search continues for Navdeep Singh Sidhu, known to friends as “Navi,” who was last seen near the High Falls area shortly after midnight.

Sidhu was on a work permit in Canada and had been camping with friends on Friday night when the group set out in a Jeep Cherokee around 12:30 a.m. to collect firewood. According to those in the vehicle, the Jeep struck a rock and a tree while swerving to avoid an obstacle on a gravel road. It then plunged front-first into the fast-moving river.

Three of the four men managed to escape by breaking windows and were carried downstream by the current—some nearly a kilometre—before reaching land or clinging to debris. Sidhu did not surface with them. Emergency services were called around 1 a.m. and arrived on the scene shortly after 3:00 a.m. Despite a coordinated search using boats, drones, helicopters, and thermal imaging equipment, Sidhu remains missing. Fast-flowing water and high river levels have so far prevented divers from entering the river safely.

Squamish RCMP confirmed they responded to a single-vehicle crash into the river at 5:00 a.m. on June 14. “Three passengers were able to get to safety,” RCMP said in a statement. “One passenger remains unaccounted for. RCMP, the fire department, and Search and Rescue personnel have been unable to locate either the missing passenger or the vehicle.”

Search and Rescue teams continue their efforts.

Sidhu’s family are pleading for help. He is described as 5’8” tall, weighing about 72–75 kilograms, with a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, black vest, and red shorts or pants. Anyone with information or who may have seen someone matching Sidhu’s description in the area is urged to contact Squamish RCMP.
