Police and search crews are combing the Sea to Summit trail for 20-year-old Alex Mai, who vanished while hiking with his family on Canada Day.

“Our members have been actively searching for Alex since yesterday afternoon,” Squamish RCMP said in a notice Wednesday.

Mai, an Asian male, was last seen near Shannon Falls Provincial Park around 3:30 p.m. on July 1. His cellphone last pinged on the Sea to Summit trail shortly after that time, just beyond the junction with Upper Shannon Falls. He was wearing flip-flops, grey shorts and carrying a cross-body bag.

Police urge anyone with information to call the Squamish detachment at 604-892-6100 and ask hikers in the area to watch for Mai.
