Heavy rain prompts warning for Sea to Sky Highway drivers

staff report
November 13, 2025 7:33am

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for the Sea to Sky region from Squamish to Whistler, with up to 50 millimetres of rain expected through this afternoon and higher amounts possible along the Sea-to-Sky Highway.

A slow-moving frontal system crossing the south coast is bringing periods of heavy rain to the corridor, including Whistler and higher elevations. The agency warns that water may pool on roads and in low-lying areas, and landslides are possible on steep slopes, in deforested terrain, and in areas affected by recent wildfires.

Drivers are being advised to prepare for rapidly changing conditions. Weather in the mountains can shift suddenly, leading to hazardous driving, and washouts are possible near rivers, creeks and culverts. Environment Canada is asking the public to monitor weather alerts and forecasts, and to report severe weather by emailing BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or posting on X using the hashtag #BCStorm.
