The Squamish RCMP have charged two people following a months-long investigation into the alleged sale of illegal tobacco products in Squamish.

The Sea to Sky General Investigation Section launched the investigation in the summer of 2025, after identifying what police say was the sale of unstamped tobacco from a repurposed metal shipping container at a busy intersection in the 40000-block of Government Road.

In August, investigators executed a search warrant at the location and seized numerous unstamped tobacco products along with stamped vape products.

On Feb. 4, 2026, police charged Melanie Bob and Doran Lewis with multiple offences. Both face counts of unlawfully possessing and selling unstamped tobacco under the federal Excise Act and B.C.’s Tobacco Tax Act.

“These types of investigations are important to ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations designed to protect public health and reduce contraband activity,” said Sgt. Jeff Shore, NCO i/c Sea to Sky GIS, in a press release.

The accused are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
