The Squamish Public Library is looking for a Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) artist to create a piece of art for the library’s interior — one that honours Squamish history, language, and culture.

According to the press release, the commissioned artwork will be prominently displayed within the library as a visible acknowledgement that it stands on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Squamish Nation. Artists are invited to bring their own creative vision to the work, interpreting and celebrating Squamish culture, traditions, and connection to the land.

Library services director Hilary Bloom said the project stems from a formal commitment the library has already made. “The Squamish Public Library Board recently created a statement on the library’s commitment to Reconciliation, and we wish to honour and recognize this commitment through an installation that will be visible to all who visit the library,” she said.

The project is supported in part by a library enhancement grant from the Province of British Columbia.

Proposals are due by May 22, 2026, at 5:00 PM. The selected artist is expected to be announced during the week of June 22, 2026, with installation planned for fall 2026. According to the press release, submissions will be reviewed by a selection committee comprising Library Board trustees and staff, with input and support from Squamish Nation Elders.
