The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District issued an evacuation order for residents of 24 properties in the Poole Creek and Gates Lake area, 30 km northeast of Pemberton, tied to danger from potential Place Glacier outburst.

The Regional district said there is immediate danger to life from overland flooding and a debris flood risk. The order covers properties along Pemberton Portage Road, Gates Creek Road, and Poole Creek Road, with the RCMP and other agencies assisting in the evacuation.

Residents in the order area must leave immediately, heading south via Pemberton Portage Road towards Pemberton. Anyone not at their primary residence is asked to return home if possible, and evacuees needing a place to stay should arrange accommodations with family or friends first, since space in the area is limited.

People needing support are asked to pre-register for Emergency Support Services online. A reception centre is open at the Pemberton & District Community Centre (Room B, upstairs, 7390 Cottonwood St.) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 25 and 26, and the Canadian Red Cross 24/7 Duty Line, 1-888-800-6493, is available outside those hours.

Anyone needing transportation help can call the SLRD-EOC on-call Duty Manager at 604-384-7357.

The SLRD says further updates will be posted at slrd.bc.ca/eoc, and is encouraging residents to sign up for SLRD Alert to receive notifications by email, text, or voicemail as the situation develops.
