The 36th Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour will take a detour from its regular route to Whistler and make a pit stop in Squamish.

Escape Route will be steering the festival to Squamish for just one day, or rather for a few hours.

A selection of movies, from mountaineering to ice climbing, will be shown at Quest University on Feb. 16th at 7 p.m.

“It’s the first time this festival will be coming to Squamish,” said Nathalie White of Escape Route.

The organisers have selected a range of movies to appeal to a broad variety of audience, she added.

The festival then moves on to the Millennium Place in Whistler on Feb. 17th and Feb.18th.

In Whistler, the show starts at 7:30 p.m.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival, a program of The Banff Centre, is the largest, and one of the most prestigious, mountain festivals in the world.

Hot on the heels of the festival held every fall in Banff, Alberta, the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour hits the road.

The festival tour makes a stop in about 390 communities and 35 countries across the globe.

The year’s tour features a varying collection of action, environmental, and adventure films from the festival.

From approximately 300 films entered into the annual festival, award-winning films and audience favorites are among the films chosen to travel the globe.

There are entries by Canadian and American filmmakers, some of which include An Ice Revolution, a film about Canadian ‘maniac’ Will Gadd who finally realised his dream of climbing heinously difficult ice at B.C.’s spectacular Helmcken Falls.

In Ski Bums Never Die, director Eric Crosland finds out what it takes to be a ski bum.
