The Squamish RCMP is investigating an incident where trees were cut down on the Coho Park Trail off Park Crescent in Squamish.

The matter was brought before the attention of the RCMP on March.13.

Two very large trees were targeted by vandals; one was felled and the other was cut very deeply, although it didn’t fell off.

Two very large trees were targeted by vandals; one felled while the other was cut very deeply in Coho Park Trail.

The second was unstable due to the damage done and a serious safety concern.

The tree felled could have seriously injured or killed the person responsible, the other left in such a state it could have come down causing injury, or worse, to an unsuspecting person, the Squamish RCMP reports.

The trail was shut down for a couple of hours until the unstable tree was felled safely. From the freshness of the cuts, the RCMP determined the incident had occurred within the past few days.

On Monday, March 12th, the police also received a report of extensive damages caused to vacant prefabricated home in the 41000 block of Government Road.

Although the investigation is ongoing, at this stage estimated damage is approx. $10,000.00. It appeared that a metal bar was used to punch holes in the walls of the trailer.

There was evidence that someone may have been frequenting the isolated location to party, possibly on more than one occasion.
