A police search in Dentville has yielded industrial grade explosives and detonators, according to the local RCMP.
On Wed, May 2nd, at approx. 11 a.m., a RCMP Police service dog and handler conducted a search in a trail in Dentville.
The team found a suspicious package containing industrial grade explosives and detonators.
Sgt. Wayne Pride of Squamish RCMP said the area behind the 38000 block of Britannia Ave was being searched for a separate investigation when officers stumbled upon the explosives.
The area was cordoned off and nearby residences were cleared for safety, he said.
The explosive disposal unit attended to the scene and safely removed the material, he added.
A secondary search was then conducted with a specially trained RCMP bomb detection team to ensure the area was safe. No other items of interest or concern were located.
Police searched the area for over four hours, but no item of interest was found, after which the area was deemed safe.
If anyone has any information relating to this or any other crimes, they are encouraged to contact the Squamish RCMP at 604-892-6100 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
